Default Over torque head bolt

bolted my heads down in my ls1 block today and on the final pass I accidentally tightened one of the medium length bolts 90 degrees instead of 50 . I imediately loosened it 90 and re tightened it to 50. Will that be ok? Really don't want to pull off head and buy new gasket and head bolt set over one bolt.

If it did not strip or break then run it.

Odds are, you will never notice the difference, but loosening it and going back to 50 was probably the worst thing you could have done. It will now be overstretched and have less clamping force than the rest. As I said before, however, you will PROBABLY not ever see any difference. These engines are seriously overbuilt for factory power levels. Unless you are running FI or nitrous, I wouldn't worry.

Just NA with a mild cam. Thanks for the response. Anyone know why those bolts get less torque? Cause they are threaded more and stretch more?

I did the same thing doing mine. I have a digital snap on torque wrench i put the bolt at 70 degrees. It was the same amount of torque as the rest. Been running it a while now no problems.

Kinda random question but I'm checking push rod length now . Is it ok to spin over engine without push rods in? They get stuck up in trays so I just push back down whatever valve I'm checking . I'm just worried about them some how falling out of trays. Is that even possible with cam in ?

No, it's fine. With the cam in, they cannot fall out of the bores.

Whats a new OEM head bolt cost? Or even a used one that hasn't been over torqued would be better IMO.
