799 head damage, can it be fixed?
set of 799 head CNC ported, there's a little damage on them and I'm not sure if I should or could have it machined out. Looks like a piston went out in one of the cylinders and garbage beat the metal up a little, only on one cylinder.
Are you referring to the handful nicks on the left side of the pic? Is there more I can't see? Doesn't look like much actual damage...perhaps not enough to actually warrant a legit repair. But I may not be getting the full story looking at it on my phone.
Yes I'm talking about exactly that, I wanna keep the springs which are .660 lift. My cam is a .600 lift I just wanna replace the valves and run em but I don't have enough cash for both so if I don't need to fix them I'm putting new valves and bolting them up. By the way should I replace the valves with stock ls6 valves or something shorter? Any suggestions?
I would knock the high spots off and then smooth what's left if it needs it with a file or similar and run them. Just use a straight edge across the head to make sure you take everything down to at or blow the level of the same areas of the other chambers. In a perfect world, have a machine shop clean them up..but we don't live in a perfect world, do we?
EDIT: are the valves even damaged?
