Default Spun main bearing...worth saving?

Long story short bought a 5.3 short blck disasembeld from swap meet for 2 bils, stored it in my brothers garage. Just looked it over and has what I would say is a pretty bad spun bearing, i see they sell .030 over main bearings but was wondering if it would be woth the machine work?

#3 main

Sub'd, I just bought a 6.0 with a very similar wear mark. Hopefully a line hone can fix this

Default GEN-III/GEN-IV block strength

OK, the pictured area may "clean" with a "kiss" hone, that cost is less than $100.00.

The main cap picture ?

The GREAT problem IS the "air" hole, that TERRIBLE WEAK SPOT, the hole between the cam AND main.
Then the "uneven" head bolt length that GM STATES was a PROBLEM of excess oil use caused by BORE DISTORTION.

The expected power output could be stated ?

Then the cost of a late 5.3 AL "core" short block ? (very low)

A great question to ask !

Solution : Acquire a "late" 5.3, bore to 88mm, stroke to 4.00"- 4.10", forged rods & pistons.

I would like to be of some help, just ask, these required items I can provide at a great price.

88mm = 3.465 inches

The 4.8/5.3L blocks are already 96mm = 3.780 from the factory.

I think what you mean is to take it 99mm = 3.898 factory LS1 bore.

Either way a the line honed should be looked at and measured by a machinist.

IMO I would scrap that block and start over. There appears to be alot of material lost and the Line hone would end up moving the rotating assembly up in the block.

The over sized bearings are for the crank side and not the block side of the bearing.

Default Aluminum 5.3 "late" block

YES, I meant to state 98mm, sorry.

My sonic test found 99mm was too thin for safety.

MY concern was the windage hole.
