Default How much before boring it?

Had the machine shop check my block (6.0), crank, and pistons. He said main and rod journals are good and I can use standard bearings. Cylinders are worn 0.002 - 0.003 thousandths. He said he would bore it at that point but it was up to me and that it would probably be ok if I didn't. He feels that .005 is the max you should go without boring it.

Sounds like its right in the middle on tolerance. My question is at what point should it be bored?

This engine was bought off of Craigslist and I don't know its history. So far no major problems.... other than I've totally stripped it down. Starting to wish I had left it alone and ran it like it was!

Thx

Mic the pistons.

A good rule of thumb is about .001" piston to bore clearance for every inch of bore when using hypers

About .0015 for forged

Bores might be worn .002 from perfect (which they likely weren't perfect from gm anyway), but if the pistons are also worn .002, those clearances combine to .004

Mic the pistons and set up a piston/bore clearance, don't just worry about the Bores alone
