Default new to ls world cam selection help

im new to the ls world. that being said ive been doing lots of reading. I recently bought a 6.0 to do a swap in a 93 Camaro for drag use only. plan is for stock bottom end, 799 heads, and a carb set up.
ive found with my reading that people say keep the rpms under 6300 rpm so I planed on shifting around 6k. so now my confusion. every cam I find in that rpm range seams mild to me with a wide rpm range minimal lift/small duration (im used to picking out sbc cams)
im using a carb and no street time so idle quality and low rpm mean nothing to me. some advice would be great thanks.

Most people saying to stay under 6300 aren't building drag only set ups. I would figure out exactly how you are going to build your car and then contact some of the sponsors and get a custom cam

the plan is to run a stock short block with heads and cam for a couple years so I can race the car. spending the majority of the budget on the rest of the drive train and suspension.

I hear ya. I spin my stock bottom end to 7k all the time and will probably spin it higher with my new intake set up.

I also don't think it will take serious rpms to meet my power goals. only looking to make 450rwhp. my low compression 383sbc in my 91 almost does that and I shift it at 6k

With the carb, single plane intake i would imagine and track only, seems like a perfect candidate for a Solid Roller or Low Lash Solid Roller.

Something like 246/252 duration at .050 with 106-108 LSA, after lashed maybe 242/248 duration. Solid Roller T-rex basically with LSA to work well with the single plane & carb. Duration & LSA might have to be tweaked to piston to valve clearance concerns.

I think that might be a fun starting point for discussion with vendor's & cam guru'swith the goal of a getting custom solid roller.
