Default 05 ls2 pullout

i just bought a 05 ls2 out of a vette. The car had about 60k miles. I plan on putting in a new cam (228 tsp) and new valve springs. My question is do you think I should pull the heads off. Maybe put in new lifters. All the signs point to the engine being in good shape. Thanks for the help.

when u pull the valve covers and rocker gear if the heads look clean you should be good with the old lifters. are you using beehive springs or doubles? with doubles you might want to do lifters and/or trunions in rockers too

Agreed with farmington. If you have the time and money, do the supporting mods. You will be happier in the end. You can pick up some LS7 lifters and a nice set of double/beehive springs for around $300 new. While you are at it, a trunion kit would be well worth it.

Any pull out engine should be compression checked and leaked down to see what one haz fo work with. Years back I bought a pull out LS1, my friend insisted on leaking it down before we reused it. It failed in two cylinders. It did look nice however.

If you do new lifters and are pulling the heads, might as well have the heads ported or exchange them as cores for a set of ported heads.

I would also measure and do a set of hardend pushrods, the stock ones are flexible and deflect.

That's for the help. I will be running double springs. Black bird I'm going to get my hands on a leak down tester.
