Eagle crank durability
Thinking of building a 382 or 408 for my vette this winter and was
curious if the Eagle cranks can handle 100 to 150 shot of nitrous
on top of your usual head, cam, header combos. Also i dont want
to have to rebuild every 15k miles .

Yes, they would easily do that. I've used the Eagle 4340 cranks up to around a 1000hp with no trouble yet and the LS1 is just as beefy or more with it's bigger mains. If you need one just call us! I am starting to stock them now.
1000 hp (wow) i was thinking 650-7oo max off the motor.
Thank you and i call you when im ready. Ill really just be looking
for a balanced rotating assembly. If you dont mind could pm me
a price of the parts,so i know where i stand.

On an endurance engine I'd spend more. Nascar uses Sonny Bryant and Windberg but this isn't NASCAR. Haven't had really any problems so far except on 351W where the mains were a little big and I had them turned down a thousandth. I've had more problems with Callies.

Gotta agree with Erik on this one. I am using the Eagle stuff for my build. Yes, they did have some clearance issues at first ( weights were not clearing some piston skirts ) but Eagle recalled EVERY one in the field and reworked them. I even heard they were reimbursing existing owners/machinists who had to do any extra work.
If I had an extra $2000 laying around ( the difference on Eagle to Lunati ) the Lunati parts would be in my motor, even tho I am going NA ( normally aspirated in my older-guy lingo ). CAn't go wrong either way unless NASCAR is calling!

I guess Chris @ AP Engineering doenst know what he's taking about then....... I didnt say Mustang guys were having problems with them..... i said LS1 guys...... The first batch of them were crap... we will see what this new batch does and were Eagle goes from there..... FWIW i am using Eagle rods......

I always wonder when someone bad mouths somehing and has something else to sell just like the "JE is crap because my builder told me so" thread. I sell all this stuff so I could care less although the Eagle will save you some serious money. Also I'm not saying that Chris is the one doing this all the time but rather many on this board. I actually really like the Diamond pistons that were being compared to JE and have talked with the guys there at Diamond several times about what they do and they are very good pistons. The problem was that people were saying that someone on here was saying that JE pistons were crap which is beyond ridiculous. The majority of the people passing rumours have never worked with any of this stuff in their life either and they usually have other people actually do all their engines.

The other stuff also had a few issues when they first came out. I don't know what Chris is talking about so you'd have to ask him. Basically the first few out had problems with clearing the usual LS1 rods and pistons and balancing right as did most others when they first came out. We have a billet SCAT with 6 pieces of heavy metal and that's not all they screwed up. So far Eagle has had none of this kind of stuff happen. If I find anything wrong I'll report on it as I actually do all the machining on this stuff myself so I know.

Amen. Please don't take any of this as a bandwagon reply or jab. It's incredibly generous, time consuming, and sometimes brave for the "actual" engine builders to come on here and post opinions. Second and third had knowledge is usuallyvery helpful but without knowing the full scoop things can get distorted. I am a very amateur engine builder at best, having worked with Chibby and Olds small blocks in my younger days. I put in some serious study time and perused countless articles, magazines, and websites before choosing to build my own motor. This is how I came to find and love LS1Tech. Chris has been a big help to me and many, many others on this board. I asked for and got honest suggestions from him and others at APE. Now, just because I did not follow his advice on the Eagle products does not mean I think he is an unreliable source. He honestly believes that there are better LS1 engine products available than Eagle and I agree to a point. Like before, I would have Lunati stuff in my engine were I to be racing or pulling severe duty. My application just did not warrant the extra $2000 or so. Eagle suits me and especially my wallet. On that note, if I run into internal failures due to MY choices, I will be the first to own up and put on the target for everyone and their told-ya-so responses. In the end, my misery may prevent someone else's!!!! That is what it is all about.
Last, we are all automotive enthusiasts no matter what we drive or who we work for. Keep on motoring and posting! Peace.
I'm running an eagle rotating assembly in the SBC in my GMC Diablo in my sig, it's pushing around 900 FWHP right now and I'm fixing to put my DP system on it with a second stage plate and try to spray it up to about 1100 to 1200 FWHP. I have much faith in the crank, now my poor pistons may be another story. But hell I'm looking for a reason to build a very high CR 421 SBC for it anyway.
