Default Help me identify this motor

I was told when I bought this that it was an 06 5.3. A warranty replacement out of an 06 truck/suv. Which I assumed meant gen 4. I am trying to sell it and am being told it is gen 3. Doing some reading superchevy makes it sound like gen 4 truck motors started in 07 (GM began phasing in Gen IV 5.3Ls in '05 with the launch of the all-aluminum LH6, which replaced the LM4 in midsize SUVs. Then in '07, the iron-block, 320hp LY5 was introduced as an update to the stalwart LM7 for use in fullsize trucks and SUVs.). Another place on here says "Among 2005 upgrades, the Vortec 5300 was equipped with floating pin pistons, allowing tighter wrist pin to pin bore tolerances, quieter engine operation and enhanced durability."

Is this a gen 3 or 4 and if it's a gen 3 would it have the older or newer style rods?

Thanks for the help!

Gen 3. If its 05+, it should have the stronger rods.

do you have the valley cover bolts? IME, if they are 13mm socket = "gen 4" rods

Did all gen 4 motors have the cam sensor in the front cover? That one has it at the back of block.

For the most part, yes. This one is a gen 3 engine.

All gen 3 engines in 05 got the floating pin rods/pistons that are usually referred to as gen 4 internals, even though the engines are not gen 4.

If this is an 05+ gen 3, it will still have gen 4 style rods/pistons in it. Gen 3 continued until 07, so 05-07 were overlap years.

Joe, by any chance do you know if the 06 and 07 trucks were 24x (black crank sensor) or 58x?

I might have a line on another small batch of work trucks to part out and 24x motors with the "gen 4" rods are what pulls the premium $$$. I have only had 2005 MY trucks in front of me.
