Help with my selection
Hey boys,
I was hoping to get some help making sure that I am making the right choices. I'm putting a LS1 into a 65 Impala - and I'm a complete amateur. I'm learning as I go, but I'm still a complete noob.
Where I need help - is in the selection of Cam, Torque converter and gears.
LS1
Holley Sniper Hi Ram intake
102mm throttle body
Holley Dominator ECU
48lb /h injectors
Mid length headers
Eaton LSD
4L60E trans
Its about 3530 lbs
Im going with 18" rims
It has hotchkis bars front an back
Im not really sure what other info you need from a current spec perspective.
It going to be a weekend cruiser, but I really want the ability to run at the drags from time to time and spray the tyres when I want.
I was looking to do a cam to make the most of the other components that I have already invested in and to make her as beefy as possible. Then was going to match it with torque converter and gears.
I had picked the Comp Cams 54-481-11 which is the XFI RPM Hydraulic Roller Cam (based on a recommendation from a local speed shop)
Lift: .534''/.537''
Duration: 277°/281°
Lobe Separation Angle 112°
RPM Range: 2000-6800
I picked a 3.73 gearing and was looking at a torque converter with a stall around the 2500 mark.
Now that's about the limit of my technical skill set. I picked the cam because I was told that was right - he said I would need a bigger stall, so I read an article - and I randomly picked the gears because.....I don't even know.
So help.....am I doing the right thing here and why?? Do I even need to go down the cam path or should I just continue as it was (this is where the noob bit becomes apparent).
