Well she started and runs
This thread is packed full of great info! Thanks to the OP for sharing for sure. I will continue to reference this when I set up my valvetrain. I went with 7.4 PR's because I am a newb and was hoping to swap my stockers (7.4 in length) with the same measurement for my replacement. Hopefully I can use the 7.4's but I also am OCD lol. Look forward to seeing your results and also the car sounds great with your mods! Nicely done
Yes it is! glad it has turned into this lol. Yea i understand but to save the castle i would check just to make sure. Thanks! ill post more vids eventually lol.
well checking them, they are all great and when tdc or when either of the valves were closed and other open, they were great. only 3 i could get .003 under rocker and i mean that was if i really tried. Even once it was in it too dang tight. idk, got a header gasket earlier and gonna go ahead and check this while valve cover is off. FWIW When i first started, it was silent as it could be, and once it got to poly 180 i gave here some good revs and never once that sound was present. Beats the hell outta me.

well just went for a drive, silent as can be while warming up, as soon as i get on the road it comes back. i was a lil rough on her, took it to almost 6k rpm in 2nd. never floored it but felt extremely strong, spins all through 2nd. IDK, still got the small leak at collector, i just don't think thats the noise.
That is exactly what mine would do...Preload still sounds a tad light.
I would count bolt turns from zero lash instead of using the feeler guage. You should be in the 1- 1 1/4 tq to 22ft lbs. Anything less is light.

You still should open it back up and count bolt turns from zero lash to 22 ft lbs just to verify. I bet the ones where you actually got a feeler gauge underneath them are still light. You can also wear gloves and check it hot like I have and you will easily see how much thermal expansion effects a aluminum engine.
i did check the turns whenever i installed the the first time cuz i was afraid they were too long all were about between 1.25 to a lil less than 1.5 turns.. Thats why I'm stumped on this noise.

That is where I am at with no noise. How is oil pressure? Notice excessive amounts of air bubbles on the oil dip stick?
yes that is 22lb. some might be a lil tight i think but once it warms up it should be pretty dang close. oil pressure is extremely high, warm idle is about 65. cruising is about 70. no bubbles at all. just changed oil, some metal on drain plug and some in oil filter, nothing you could feel to the touch which I'm sure is normal with new cam, lifters and what not. Kinda strange too, if you open the hood and give a few revs, its so much quieter under the hood than it is beside the car. With the noise anyways. Buddy came over last night that used to have a ls2 camaro with a 233/239 cam. rode with me, said his used to sound just like that but his dumps muffled it. Who knows maybe she is just noisy. thanks again for all the help.
Awesome, kinda feel that way too, i have gotten on it pretty good and man what a difference it frickin lights tires up at 40in 2nd no problem just rollin on throttle. seems like it'll rev pretty good. Cant wait.
well finally got 8" caliper, checked where the checker was, it was at 7.32 which if u add .060 u end up at 7.38 and i have 7.375 push rods. so already a tad shorter plus once it warms up which would put me about .045 thousands pre load? So if i went up to a 7.4 that would give me roughly .070 once warm? That sounds lil much for the 5315 or am i missing something. Thanks in advance.
