Default Well she started and runs

finally got it on a base tune so i can put some miles on clutch and some oil changed on this thing. Everything is good, maf was acting up, running speed density now but is running real fat, other than that car is extremely responsive and feels amazing. just a decent amount of valve train noise that I'm hoping goes away with miles.. hitting the dyno the 11th, time to drive. Mods in sig.

Awesome news man! What head gaskets did you run and what pushrod length did you end up with? Sounds like its going to be a lot of fun!

I know we talked in a different thread at one point, but I have my tuner dropping in Saturday to throw a base tune in to cover me running 42 lb injectors on a fresh shortblock. I will probabaly drive it a few miles and break the motor in, then i plan to do the racetronix pump and hotwire kit and return to him for final tuning.. May not have numbers for a bit, but i'll let ya know how it runs!

I bet we end up with pretty similar numbers! Curious to see how those TMS heads perform!

Thanks! Cometic .040 as well. Morel 5315 .050 pre load was 7.3" long. Guy that i had build my engine when i took it out thinks maybe we need more preload. So he is gonna check with morel tomorrow. Car feels extremely stout down low, extremely crisp and responsive. Cant imagine once we starts adding timing and doing his thing. I Think it would be great if i was close to what you will make lol. Ill post vid up in a minute of the ticking i have going on.

We should have very similar pushrod lengths i would imagine. Same head, same lifter, and same gaskets.. I can't remember what i told the machine shop for preload, but .040-.060 sticks in my head.. I may be mistaken, but it sounds like your preload should be good... I ended up with 7.350 pushrods, so i am really hoping they work out.. I hate to go back in and have to get a different length.. I'll find out on saturday when i start it up i guess lol

Valve train noise does not go away with mileage. Sounds like you need more preload. I would shoot for .060-.070 cold. (Keep in mind the ls1 nets .012 growth when hot). 7.3 push rod sounds a bit short for that setup. Did you measure every valve? I started with a 7.325 because that is what the valves I measured needed, but after getting some noise when hot, I went back through and checked all valves and 4 were light. So I went up to 7.35 and that made a difference. I am considering switching to adjustable rockers so each valve is spot on.

Btw congrats on getting it running.

Awesome, thanks! Idk how he measured but even when he measured he still thought that was a lil short. Ima re measure this weekend hopefully and he sending me some 7.325's just in case it's closer but I will check. Thanks again

I have .035 preload on my morel 5315's in a LM7 with a cam motion 222/226 115+3 .600 lift cam and it is nice and quiet.

Well started car and moved it, pulled valve cover and got her on TDC. I know they should be able to move a lil side to side but not like this correct?

As long as the rocker arm bolt is tight, then it seems loose.. I'm guessing longer pushrod length should help.

Iron block does not have the same expansion as aluminum...

That is definitely not right...Pushrod is way too short.

Yes that much cold...You loose .012 of preload when the engine comes up to temp with aluminum. 5315's have around .120 of travel, so .060 puts the pushrod right in the middle of the plunger travel range.

By the looks of the video, you are running with lash not preload. 7.325 is still going to be too short imo.

ok makes sense. I was thinking that when moving the lifter earlier, thinking 7.35 will be more in my area. Going to check either tomorrow or sunday.

makes more sense cuz on cold start the noise isn't noticeable at all really, then once everything settles its starts coming around and ending with very consistent sound.

With our set ups being extremely similar i am thinking the 7.350 will work best also.. I'm assuming the TMS heads are lightly milled for clean up like mine .005-.007 at most i am assuming? I can't imagine the base circle of our cams is much different, if at all, and we have the same lifters. WS6 store has the 7.350's for $99.95 right now i think, seemed like a good price.

I will let you know if i get any noise with mine tomorrow.. I'll be starting it mid day tomorrow.. I was able to roll the motor with the starter last night with plugs out and pulled damn near 40 psi.. Hoping it goes well!
