Default ***** Thumpr

I have a 87 Caprice with a stock 5.3 swap with LS6 intake. I'm thinking about doing a ***** Thumpr cam or a Brian Tooley stage 2 truck cam with a converter. I'm new to the LS world that's why I'm reaching out to you all. If you have this setup or know something about it let me know what you think as far as performance gains, tuning and just let me know if it's too much or not. Let me note that I love to hit the highway and blow my A/C too.

Thanks in advance!!

That cam will have an extremely aggressive idle, poor vacuum and may surge while cruising on the freeway. If its sound you are looking for, this cam wont disappoint for sure...but drivability would be awful. In case you don't know how to get that chop you may be looking for Ill give you a brief explanation. Cam "lope" is a product of valve overlap. The more overlap you have at (lets say .050") lift the more lope you will have. To figure out how much overlap a cam will have at .050, take the intake duration (.050) and exhaust duration (.050) and add them. Then divide that number by 2. Then take that number and subtract it by the product of (2(LSA)). So for your cam: ((227+241)/2)-(2(109)). You should get 16. The lower the number the less aggressive it will sound.(yes it can be a negative number). If it was me, In a 5.3 street car... I would get a much smaller cam. Don't forget not only will this effect A/C, but also power brakes and the like.

Edit: PTV clearance will need to be verified with that cam as well.

Those are 2 VERY different cams. How did it come down to those 2?
