Help,coolant problem
Help,coolant problem Hey guys, when ever I go wide open throttle, after a while (like driving home from the track) I get a low radiator light. When I drive it normally, I have no problem. I changed out the radiator cap with a new one.
This problem only happens at WOT. I am having to fill about 20 ounces the next morning. I am wondering if I have a leak in my head gasket since I don't see any evidence of coolant on the engine anywhere.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would get a combustion gas test kit. You can test for a head gaskets leak. The chemical changed color if exhaust gas is present in the coolant sample. Napa and other Auto Parts stores carry the kits. Amazon probably has them too. This can help with determining if the head gaskets are ok.

Might also be worth getting the whole coolant system pressure tested.
I would also look for leaks around the radiator, overflow tank, heater core and check radiator hoses. The radiators are crimped together and sometimes leak or go bad with age. 98's and 99's have a level sensor that sometimes goes bad and or leaks. I think the sensor was deleted by GM for late 99 or 00 models.
