Default The new guy.

Ya I'm the new guy. Just bought 1999 ws6 13000 miles. 6 speed. I know nice bit about these but not so much with forums. I would like to install cam. Best bang for your buck. And everything else that would have to come with this to do it right.
Around $5000 CD budget. I have full American racing headers and exhaust. Now the rest is stock. Thanks for any help or pointers.

Depending on the cam youll need new springs retainers. Might as well upgrade oil pump and ls2 double timiming chain while you have it apart. Harden push rods will def help out. Could upgtade to ls7 lifters. If you have and money left after that maybe upgrade rockers.

I would not bother with a double row timing chain. The normal LS2 unit will do a good job for what you want to do. You need to space the oil pump away from the block to run a double chain. The rockers would do well with a bronze bushing upgrade, but that's it.
Everything else KingColt has up there would do well for you.

LS2 chain is single row but twice as thick metal as the LS1.

Call up cam motion. They can spec you out a good cam, spring, pushrods, etc kit that is so well within your budget you'll have plenty left over to round out your build.

You've already got headers. For 500 you can get dual 3" exhaust from speed engineering. It will bolt right up to your headers.

If you've got money in there after pricing what you want, send your heads to AI, TEA, or Livernois for porting and mill for a compression bump. That should easily be under 2k. Tr6 spark plugs. People will argue heads are not bang for buck, but it will greatly improve the power gain from the cam AND the compression will help with DD manners assuming it's a street car.

Set aside about 1k for tune, fluids, and gaskets.
