Hawks sinister cam kit ... recommended ????
Was thinking about putting it up for sale just because I don't really drive it ..
Any way maybe a cam would get me a little more excited about driving it again .
Was looking at the hawks Sinister 230/236 .591"/.601" 112 LSA Camshaft.
What do you guys think. Any recommendations on springs ?? And are push rods necessary or just recommended
I'm not looking to get to carried away and currently have no plans for future mods other than the cam ...
Or do you suggest a different route
I'd just go to Cam Motion and have them ground it. 230/236 .629/.604 112+2.
Then grab some Manton 11/32nd pushrods, BTR Platinum Springs, and a new LS6 oil pump or Melling 10295 pump, C5R timing chain, and swap out the stock trunnions for some Straub Bronze bushed Trunnions.
I work at the dealer so I get a great price on factory parts ad 90% of the time I can get the the next day
I suggest a different path before the cam...
Your only mods are 6:39:44 AM headers and mail order tune?
The most fun with a six speed car in my experience comes from the driving experience. Cams are great but gears have more impact on the driving experience. 3.73's to 4.10's are an excellent range. I like 4.10's the best. Aftermarket shifters also greatly improve the experience.
An aftermarket rear 8.8 or 9 inch is a big step if you don't beat the car the 10 bolt can live a good while. An excellent clutch also helps eventually down the line.
Finally the cam after sorting the drive line. In part because bigger Cams drive better with 3.73's and higher gears.
If you've had lots of experience with Cams go big, otherwise the LPE GT-12 227/235 or Tick SNS2 227/235 are probably where I would start lookijg.
Also LS6 intake or better at the same time as cam plus the other stuff and ideally a good underwrite balance ideally.
Best wishes on your build.
That sinister cam would sound identical to this.. My compression was bumped with .040 gaskets.. haven't been able to dyno or hit the track yet but have driven it about 60 miles.. So far driveability is better than expected and i only have a base tune in it currently (No stalling at stops or RPM flucuation). I have a stalled auto, so a M6 may have a little more driveability issues, but honestly i think it could still be dialed in with a good tune.
If this is your first cam and you drive a lot, a smaller spec may be a better option with the 6 speed.. but if its a weekend car i wouldn't be afraid of a 230/236 112 cam..

There are a million different cam choices out there. If you are looking to wake up your car a cam is def the way to go, but you must also have supporting mods to compliment it. Like long tubes, intake, ory, and exhaust so it can do what it supposed to do.
