Default sad news

I bought a take out LS6,LQ4 and 4L80E out of a 2003 chevy silverado, installed it in a 1965 chevy belair, two door post caar, got it ready to start and it had a rod knocking in it big time, I am so depressed, now I have to tear it out and apart and start a rebild, wasn't planning on this and this was not in my budget. Looking for suggestions on how to proceed. thks

how much did you pay for the entire thing? depending on your budget, a junkyard lq4 can be had for as low as $350 depending on mileage.

pulling a motor aint that bad man, cmon

pull it, pop the pan off and have a look at the rods.

I have seen motors knock due to a bent rod from hydrolock. replace the bent rod & piston and a-way-we-go!

**** like this is endemic to motor swaps. pull that thing and have a peek at the turkey

LS's are so easy and cheap to work on, there's really no big deal. Go get another motor if your crank is ruined, or just replace ruined parts. If possible, try contacting the person you bought it from and try to get a refund or some follow up cash to get another.

I've bought about 15 junkyard and pull out LS engines over time and the first thing I do when I get them is pull the heads. 7 of them have had water in one or more cylinder, and rusted or scored cylinder walls. Water in one or more cylinder usually makes for a bad day when firing a new build. I see so many people on this forum buy motors and not inspect them prior to firing them. I would pull it out and take it apart to see what is the problem. If the block and most of the rotating assembly are good then it should be a fairly inexpensive fix.
