Default Help on choosing a cam

Hello, I have a 1999 Trans Am. So far the only mods I have to it is a SLP air lid, diablo tuner. I'm looking to invest in a cam but I'm on a budget. I've seen people direct swap cams without changing anything or getting a cam and only changing springs. I'm only looking for a mild cam for my daily driver. Any info will help!

If you get a cam with lift under .550" you can get by with LS6 springs which are easily available and cheap. Lots of the sponsors here can help you with a cam that will give your engine a good jolt and stay under budget.

LS6 intake and headers would be easier mods and still add 40 horsepower or so
If stuck on a cam AND staying with stock exhaust manifiolds; the GT2-3 and LS6 springs

If you're staying with stock manifolds you really don't want to run a very aggressive camshaft by any means. I would honestly suggest doing headers first if on a budget, and then revisiting the camshaft later. The time and parts that go into doing a camshaft swap just isn't as worth it to me personally for the little power and sound benefit that you get from an extremely small camshaft that you'd need with stock manifolds in place.

Everyone is right with the headers and intake first. then crack open engine later. But if you want something for your fbody, why not come to THE fbody guys at ws6store?
We have quite a few cam and spring kits available and can custom grind you a cam to work for what you want with minimal issues.
