Default New Cam ls1 Pushrod length

Hi I just installed a new camshaft in my ls1 and I'm unsure if the pushrod length is correct or I'm pushing the lifter when I pick up the rocker. I torqued all the rockers down to 22 ft lbs when the valves where open. They are not loose and the pushrods aren't either however when I pick up on them they all can lift about .10 to .15 of an inch although there is some resistance When lifting them. Question is am I just pushing down the lifter when I lift the rocker or do I need longer pushrods? Thanks

for reference the motor has a trick flow top end kit 515 hp and I am just swapping the cam to a lunati voodoo cam #60512. Which is 232 238 duration 599 and 601 lift and a 113 lsa. The car has 7.5 pushrods with trick flow 215 heads

You really need to buy an adjustable pushrod and measure. I would also consider larger OD pushrods while you are at it.

Also I think it's best to torque the rockers when the cam is on it's base circle (valves not open). Here is the GM procedure.

Yeah I'm getting my pushrod checker in the mail today so I will check and update when I find out what length is right. I definitely torqued the rockers correctly. I have a feeling my length will be correct and I'm just compressing the lifter when I lift the rocker off the valve. But we'll see. Thanks

Had an aftermarket cam in mine, think it was a Comp Cams one, it has a smaller base circle, so the pushrod had to be 7.425".

Just installed a new cam shaft a few days ago, ordered pushrods to go with that cam, and they were 7.400". Feeling the pushrods when not under load I could just rotate them, which is correct.

You may find you need longer pushrods for your cam. I guess you will find this out with the pushrod length checker. Good luck with your install.

Default Pushrod length determined

So just checked with the Pushrod length checker and the average length from both sides of the engine was about 7.45. So with about .050 preload added to that that leaves me at 7.5 which is what Length Pushrod I had originally. The base circle of the track max can and the lunati voodoo must be very similar. Thanks everyone for the help
