Default Oil pressure fluctuating

2002 C5 - replaced oil pump about 2 months ago after having losing oil pressure one day, which I confirmed with a mechanical gauge. Found the bypass valve on the pump to be stuck and I replaced with a Melling unit. Did not find any metal shavings in the oil or filter at that time.

Since then, I've daily driven the car (probably 2000 miles since) and everything has been solid until yesterday I noticed at a redlight that my oil pressure gauge was fluctuating a bit. It would be at 40-45psi like normal then randomly creep down to ~25 psi and after a couple sounds shoot back up to 40 psi. Drove the car today and noticed that even when driving at steady state RPM it would fluctuate as much as 20-30psi in the same manner. Revving the engine did increase oil pressure.

Oil pressure sending unit was last replaced about 6 years ago. I'm planning to start by replacing the sending unit again but given the timing since I last had pressure problems, seems too convenient for it to be a coincidence of a failing pressure sender right after a failed oil pump. What's the best/worst case scenarios? Worst = spun rod bearing maybe?

Put a mechanical gauge on it, and verify.

best case, bad sensor

worst case, spun cam bearing

Only seems to do it when the engine is warm. No easy way to get a mechanical gauge on it while it's warm so I may just replace the sensor and see if there's any change.

Could this possibly be a pinched o-ring on the oil pick up or would that have shown up much sooner after the reassembly?
