Heads and stock cam
is it safe to port and polish your stock heads or buy ported ls1 or ls6 heads and run them with your stock cam?
if so what kind of gains would i see and is there any tuning involved?
if not what would the best camshaft be for it...i dont want a choppy popping sound i like the smoothe rumble of my stock cam

Gains of ported and polished heads are minimal VS cost involved. Add a cam to that and your in business.
You can look at MTI stealth cams SS1, SSII
Or something a little more wicked AMS has a couple of cams.
You would gain more by a cam only swap than a head only swap.
There is always the LS6 cam.
Basicaly you need a high lsa cam to make it idle sooth and if you don't want a choppy sound, then stay below 220 duration.
