Default Bank1, 2 Lean Condition

I have a 2000 suburban with a LM7. It has the EGR module on the passenger side front of the block that pipes in to the intake manifold. Not sure what chevy was thinking on this it seems like it's impossible to get it to seal well. I'm getting a lean on bank 1 and 2 code and i think this is the issue.
Does anyone have any tricks for getting this to seal. i installed a new seal on it but the design of the thing seems poor. I feel like i can't be the first person to have this problem so I was hoping someone has some advice for me.
