Default Piston Ring Compressor for a 6.0L ?s.

I'm working on LQ4, and I need to know what the Piston Ring Compressor inside diameter is?

Thanks.

It's a 4.0" Bore, the piston diameter is 3.970" I think. My question is do I use one that is 4" inside diameter or one that is couple of thousandths over the piston diameter?

Thanks.

Use one that is slightly smaller than the cylinder bore itself.

The piston should be more like 3.996-3.999" depending on the manufacturer and material. Usually the piston ring compressors are designated for the bore size and will have a reduced ID to accommodate the piston.

This is the one I've used for 4" bore blocks.

One piece fixed diameter or one piece split adjustable, about $40 from Summit or Speedway, very easy to use. For the OP, 4.00 fixed or 4.00-4.070 split

ARP, tell them what you got and they will provide the correct size 62 bucks but they are the best.

I used the 1 piece ARP ring compressor for my 4.030 bore LQ4. They have them for the 4" bore as well.

I believe the taper stops a little ways towards the bottom. But that will allow your piston to slide right into the cylinder with ease. I use the same product above.
I always make sure the machine shop tapers the top of each cylinder to help with this too.
Just buy it...

If everything is "Right" you can push the piston and rings with your thumbs no need for a hammer...
