Buying my first ls!? Guide Hey everyone! I have been studying for the past few months about ls engines while i have been finishing my air ride on my 65' c10. I am at the conclusion of a 5.3 vortec or the 4.8. My goals for my truck are to have reliability and drivability and possibly some street hp but not aton. As my truck is a cruiser but dont want a dog. Anyways! My question is which route should I take on getting a good used engine. There are three options:
second hand IE: craigslist from a random person
junkyard pull
or now i have been seeing on ebay parts places selling the engine assembly with a warranty and mileage on some but they are tested( more expensive but yeah)
whats the smartest route? And what is considered to high mileage to be able to pull and drop in my truck? As i really dont want to do a full build right now? Any advice!? Thanks everyone!

Buy something that's running, plenty of 5.3 and 4.8 vehicles around for cheap. That way you know how/if the vehicle ran and you have everything you need from the donor. I bought a 6.0 from Craigslist that supposedly came from a running truck. It looked good from the outside as it was cleaned up. I opened it up a couple months later and it was full or dry sludge that looked like it sat for years.
My friend on the other hand picked up a running van with a 6.0 and sold a bunch of crap from the van. Came out paying a couple hundred for a 6.0 and 6L80 in known good running condition.
