5.3 ls cylinder help?
hey guys so i picked up a 2005 5.3 chevy with 78k miles on it but it had been sitting but it turned over and the guy assured me it ran great no issues . But i wanted to go through it just to check everything. I cleaned the pistons up, looking at the walls it has a little carbon build up and looks like the motor sat but no rust really at all. Motor turns oover great and everything looks good. I just dont know if im making a mistake if i clean it all up and put it together? Or get a hone pull the crank and put it together? Or pay a machine shop? Any advice appreciated!
Looking at those cylinder walls, I personally wouldn't run that without a hone. I'm **** though. I would take it to a machine shop and have them hot tank, hone, and replace cam bearings. You would be surprised at how inexpensive it is for the insurance.
Heading to machine shop tommrow going to have them hone it and new besrings and the heads as well. What about this cam? Guy said he "put a cam in it" worried that he ran it with the incorrect springs as he said he didnt change them
Unfortunately, That is just a stock cam.
