line on cam lobe - problem?
line on cam lobe - problem? This cam just came out, it's got 30K miles, one lobe has this wear line, should I be concerned? No obvious wear on any other lobes. It's stock, lifters stock. Really don't want to have to replace lifters at this point.
I would try to get a look at that lifter if you can. You can buy a borescope for your phone on Amazon for around $25. Hook the end to a long rod and aim to it examine the lifter wheel.
I would personally be very hesitant putting the motor back together with that cam and not knowing the source of what happened.

If you cant feel it then it is probably fine. Seeing where the lifter rides is normal. Engine oil is also normal for short term assemblies, assembly lube is only needed if the assembled engine is going to sit for a while.
I like the borescope idea, but I don't know if I could get a definite answer with that, what if there's some small damage spot on the lifter roller but it's facing the wrong way so I still can't see it? The rollers do turn right? Actually I don't see how there'd be a line all the way around the lobe like that if the roller is turning, is it possible for the rollers to stick so they don't roll?
I'm using Lucas oil stabilizer as "assembly lube" thanks to another poster on here, it's cheaper but works great for coating things and pure oil based.
