Default Please Help School Me!

Okay so I have doing as much reading as I can but yet I’m still confused... I want to forge or stroke my LS1. Here are some of my questions.

I see a lot of posts saying to go to an iron block before, if that’s the case what block is best? Do I stroke that block? And then does all my other stufffrom my motor bolt up to that block? ( I.E. headers, heads, cam)

Is better to just forge the the block I have or go with a stroke kit? If it’s a stroke kit is there a company that sells the best ones?

My goal is to adventually boost my car but I want to do all the internal stuff first.

I’m sorry if these are completely dumb questions, but I would like to learn as much as possible. I would love for someone to give me advice and tell me exactly what I need..I’ll list my current engine mods below.

-Comp camshaft
-Harland sharpe roller rockers
-Fast 90mm intake manifold ported
-Nick Williams 90mm throttle body
-SLP air intake
-Slp under drive pulley
-Kooks true duel with 1 7/8 headers and full 3in exhaust no cats
-New motor and tran urethane mounts

Thank you for any help!!

5k-7k even if it’s less or more I would love to know what’s the best way to build my motor.

I'll give you my case as an example. Originally i had my current HCI on my old LS1. That blew up, and I was on a budget, so I sold the block and bought a forged 370 LQ9 and put the HCI on that. Even though the budget was limited at the time I figured this was a great foundation to build upon when the time came

Thank you! So did your headers fit on that block? Where did you buy your forged block at? And if you were doing it again is that the block you would go with?

Yep everything tranfered over with no modifications. I got mine from Thompson Motorsports. It was the best deal I could find at the time. I have no regrets. What I got for what I paid I'd definitely do it all over again

Do you have any particular goals in mind? Target ET in the quarter? Horsepower?

One thing really nice about the LS is a lot of stuff can be interchanged so you can get creative.

On the bottom end, I’d tell you to build for as many cubes as you can afford and also try to keep bore > stroke. Most all around good LS motors do well like that.

With very little idea what you’re wanting an iron 408 is usually a very economical and versatile starting point. Basically 4†x 4â€. Can be set up for boost, RPM, torque, all around street machine that won’t lose many races.... Really comes down to what you’re wanting to do with it

Hey thanks! End goal I would like 650-700whp.. I know eventually I would like some kind of power adder.. so if I bought this block in the link below, I could use my parts like headers, cam, heads ect? Would there be anything else I would need to buy to make this work? Thanks again for your help!

There’s what you CAN do and what will get you your goals.

The LS1 stock heads aren’t going to be barn burners on a 408. Ls3 heads are far better, give you more intake options, etc. very likely the cam you have won’t be optimal for a 408. Headers will work, and the true duals will bolt right up.

You should be able to get to 500-550 NA and then boost up from there to hit your goals.
