416CI quench/Squish?

Hi Guys,
What is thought to be the optimum quench (We call it Squish)?
No power adders 11.5:1 comp ratio, may up it to nearer 12 with some new heads, Here in the UK our premium Gas is 99RON.
Am i correct in 0.40 is about where i want to be?
My pistons are flush so using a 0.40 head gasket would be the easiest way?

.040" is pretty safe. Tighter than that and you're risking more for less reward.

agreed, aluminum can get away with a touch tighter but I wouldn't go beyond it with an iron block for sure.
