Default ls3-5364 heads on LS1 block?

I've searched and read many replies that it can't be done. Cylinder walls hit by valves. I understand that. Has anyone ever tried to push thru and use these heads by scalloping the bore edges where the valve hits? Does the bore overhang (all around the rest of the bore) create so much turbulence or?? that it just makes the whole thing too inefficient or cause detonation etc, that it's not worth the work? Not trying to beat a dead horse (although I probably am). I just want to know if has ever been done and was there any success. Plus I like to know exactly what the problems are in this combo. I have a '97 LS1 block getting re-sleeved on one cylinder due to valve damage. I've been told that the most you should overbore the LS1's is 0.010. Is that true or is there more meat that can be removed? I ask because any overbore would help to make the LS head fit too. See, I'm trying to will it to happen, lol.
I have a cast iron '04 5.3 block too. I see recommendations to bore it to LS1 specs (3.89) but can it go all the way to 4.00 inch? Or is it just not feasible?
I want to build a 4.8 stroke LS with these 5364 heads. I'll probably find a 4.00 inch bore block or would like the LS2 size even more, but I would like to make the 5.3 or the LS1 block work. Anyway. Thanks for your help and explanations.

Can you afford Mast heads? If so, they make a small-bore LS3-type head that uses smaller valves but still have great flow. I think others have a similar head.

Default Hendric Head Valve Size

Hi Mark, the Hendrick you ask about was used in NASCAR for years with many valve sizes.
I would make a "test" Intake Valve of 2.08" for check fit.
I have made Intake Valve "venturi" Valve Seats for engines in the past.

My guess, never with a LS-3 head, is to install new seats with small valves.

You will have GREAT low lift flow, good low end torque, and great CFM.

The Ford FE Tunnel Port heads used this method with great success.
I did the same when at HMS to the Ford 302 TP head, worked VERY well.

I can supply the seats ?

Find a Iron 6.0L block! If your absolutely stuck on aluminum blocks.....Try to find a 6.2L L92 block. I bought my complete L92 for $2000 with stuck rings.

I wanted a LS2 for my car, People are just crazy with the prices!

Thanks for the replies guys. I've known of the small bore LS3 heads from Mast and Chevy but I already have the 5364 heads. The small bore sets do lose a lot of flow with the smaller valves/chambers. I'll probably just move up to a 4.00 inch or hopefully a 4.065 block. That would allow the heads to flow their best anyway. I just have to wait for one to come up. Again thanks guys.

Many manufacturers used to do that as factory. That's why I was wondering if you can even cut enough to make it work on a 3.900 bore. I was hoping someone may have actually tried it, and of course, that it worked. Lol.

Given the availability of good heads for the 3.9 bore I doubt anyone has tried it
