Default Only porting Intake runner on 241 heads?

Hello forum,

So I was wondering, what would happen if you only port the intake runner side on a set of ls1 heads? I've finished porting the intake runners on my set of 241s and haven't started the exhaust side of the heads. What would happen if I leave the exhaust side alone? Any problems? Obviously less gains, but by how much less? Has anyone done this?

Thanks!

Never heard of someone just doing that alone so I'm not sure. Why would you consider this when you're already there doing the heads?

The exhaust to intake flow ratio is pretty important when trying to improve an engines performance. You’ve now made that ratio crappier. Doubt you’ll find anyone who tells you “you’re fine, they’ll work great”

On an LS engine, if ANYTHING, the exhaust should have priority over intake. What the 2 posts above mine are saying is true. If you have done the intake ports, by all means do the exhaust ones too!

With less exhaust flow ratio than intake, you get more of this effect called reversion where a higher than normal amount of exhaust gas actually goes back to the intake.

A skilled hand porter on exhaust can obtain numbers within 10 cfm of the better cnc programs. This is very difficult for the hand port within that target on the intake. So take advantage of the opportunity and end with a good i/e ratio as the others have advised.

Can this be compensated for with a wider, rev-split cam? I know for sure that a self port is much easier to accomplish on the intake side, which may result in cheating the exhaust.
