Default Piston slap???

Hello, I've recently purchased a used 6.0 lq9. When taking the 243 heads off I stumbled upon something I'm unsure about. Most, but not all of the pistons can wiggle around when I have them at TDC. I have a short video to show you. I'm a complete noob when it comes to engines, But I'm having a blast learning! -Cody

Like a couple thousandths? Normal. Much more than that? Call the engine builder.

I am guessing that is a used motor. Look like forged pistons so it likely has loose clearances for the pistons to grow.

Really would have to take it apart and measure the piston and the cylinder wall diameter.

It's the only way to get the answers you seek.

yes sir, it was in a 2006 gto with a supercharger. I just cleaned the top of the pistons. this is the car it was in before. When I first pulled the heads I noticed what appeared to be blown head gasket. I'm guessing this is why he pulled the motor. He said the bottom end was infact forged.

I have a 2000 suburban with the 6.0 and it has piston slap and what I found out was that it was common in that motor around that time. It goes away after about a minute or 2 when first warming up and I have had no issues for about 60K miles but now it is starting to burn oil so the motor is definately getting tired. If you are planning on keeping the motor I would get it taken care of as from what I understand it only gets worse over time.

Take it over to Abilene To ED's machine and let him go through it.

Most likely the oil rings are getting pasted with carbon.
