Default lq4 6.0 or 408

ok guys the ls1 in my gto is knocking bad. I am planning to pull the motor and put a new bottom end in. I just have a few questions. I am looking to either put a lq4 6.0 370 or buy a stroke lq4 408. Obviously the stroker is going to cost more money. my question is how is the wear and oil consumption on the 408? what kind of longevity woud i expect to get out of the 408? I dont want to be rebuilding the block after 15k or 20k miles. or would i better off just doing a 370?

The car will be a weekend warrior mainly getting 5000 miles a year at the most on it. The goal is to make high 4xx to low 5xx on motor and spray a 100 to 200 shot on a plate kit that is already on the car. The current heads i have for it our 243s that are hand ported with btr .650 valve springs. I know the heads will get me the power i want unless cnc port them. I looked up a few different engine builders like ams, atk, thompson, and Hke. does any have recommendations on engine builders?

Even properly prepped a 408 is still going to see increased skirt wear on the pistons because of how far they pull out of the bore and the bore/stroke ratio. I built a 408 for boost because I only plan on using it as a weekend driver so it might see 2-3 thousand miles a year. I hope to get 25,000+ out of it but at the power level I'll be running (900hp) I don't know of that will happen.
My other engine is a 6.0 with LSA supercharger running 10lbs of boost, It's driven spring through fall as long as there isn't rain in the forecast. I should be able to get near 100,000 out of it.

The longevity is really going to be dependent on the selection of parts, but more importantly, the quality of the machining and assembly. A 4032 alloy piston might be a good choice since it is a harder alloy than the usual 2618 and should resist wear better. However, it will be less forgiving if anything should go wrong with the nitrous.

Nothing against any of the others you mentioned, but I would recommend HKE. Erik recently moved his operation to McKinney, Texas and partnered up with the guys from Vorshlag suspension. He is running Horsepower Research now, or HPR for short.

Thank you for your interest in ATK. Like what was stated, the 408 will see more wear. For your application we can do something like this engine, based off the GEN III LQ4 block for about $3700.00. Its a 6.0 with stock crank, upgraded Scat I Beams and Wiseco Forged pistons with the steel to ring. This would give you a solid parts stack that would handle what you're throwing at it.

Let us know if we can help.
