Default Texas Speed LS2 Lifter Trays Look Wrong

Hello all. I purchased a set of LS2 lifter trays with my cam order from TSP (P/N 12595365) and everything was going fine and well until I snapped the top piece off by accident. Not sure how but might have hit it with the head.

Anyways I bought a brand new tray with the same part number from my local GM dealer only to find the tray is not the same. The one from GM matches up with all my internet searches for LS2 trays. The TSP trays don't seem to match anything on the internet. I contacted TSP and they said that because they buy in bulk from GM, they could be visually different. The design difference is more than cosmetic though with a significantly fewer amount of reinforcement ribs on the TSP trays.

I guess I have 2 questions. 1. Does anyone have the reduced rib tray (And did you get it from GM)? 2. Has it caused anyone grief? I don't want my engine build to be compromised by these trays.

I purchased some from Ebay that were supposed to be GM trays. They looked just like the ones you have pictured on the right. I contacted the seller and they said" sorry we shipped the wrong ones" . They shipped me GM trays with the correct GM numbers on them and had me ship the knock-off trays back to them prepaid .

Personally, I wouldn't install the tray on the right. Not sure if that is the tray from TSP but it doesn't look like a real GM part. Every GM tray I have ever bought has the part number stamped on it.

Default China Lifter Trays ???

Hi Striker, I too agree that the RH item looks weaker than the LH tray.

I see LESS ribs, easier for a mold cavity manufacturing method of cost reduction.

I would be worried about the plastic quality, the part life expectancy, the max heat before the item melts.

This heat "test" could be easy using a heat gun, IR Pyro, and a test of the new broken item/worn GM item.

I would "mike" the walls as the RH items looks thinner in the picture.

MY GOD, a ten dollar part that WILL CAUSE major engine failure is being produced at LOWER QUALITY to lower engine assemble costs ?

GREAT REPORT by Swift !

My local dealership had 2 in stock and had to order 2 for me (had them next morning) and I paid 8 dollars each for em, with peace of mind knowing they are genuine and correct.

There has been a lot of talk about knock offs going around, and these are still widely available at dealerships so I would just return them and pay the local GM dealership for them.

Last thing you need is for your attempt to do everything the right way, going the extra mile to replace the lifter trays, to backfire because some company wanted to make a few dollars extra profit by giving you subpar parts.

I have talked with TSP and they were very helpful. They stand firmly behind the trays they sell which come from the supplier that does the trays for GM according to them. They have been this reduced rib design for over a year and a half with no failures recorded. I still felt a little concern running them as I will be drilling them for quicker oil return to the pan and when I made TSP aware of my unease, they offered to refund my cost on them so I could buy them from my local dealer.

Overall a good experience with TSP. Thank you all.
