TREperformance short blocks or not
The engine will be going into my rock crawler so torque is what I really want. I was pricing the 408 stroker kits and then saw TREperformance has a stroker. So I know nothing about TREperformance and yes I used the search here. I found a thread about their injectors, one thread where a guy bought their stroker short block and had an oil pan leak though it sounded as if it was because he used a used oil pan gasket. I did not see anything about the quality of their short blocks.
So what I am asking is are their short blocks any good and what route should I go. I already have TSP heads that are ported and polished and milled 0.035. I also have their 224r cam. I plan on using a 4 barrel carb intake and Holley Sniper EFI. Any info you guys can supply would be appreciated. I am new to the LS engine stuff.

You are going to spend a fortune to be possibly disappointed... Carb? did your engine come with the efi stuff and harness? Why not use that its already paid for
I also would like the extra torque of a stroker. I also want higher compression as I am considering e85 fuel. I know I don't need a ton of horsepower for rock crawling but we take the Jeep to the dunes also where I would appreciate more horsepower for drag racing and hill climbing. I just don't have a ton of experience with the LS engine as I am predominately a Ford guy. I don't know anything about TREperformance hence the reason for this thread. Do they build good quality short blocks, does anybody here have personal experience with using their stuff, etc.? I appreciate your response but there is no way I would ever tear an engine down for inspection and then reuse the bearings no matter how good they look. I mean 125,000 miles is still a lot of miles no matter how little wear it shows. The cylinders still have a very distinct crosshatch with very little carbon ridge at the top of the cylinder wall but at the very least it will get honed if not bored. You might call it a waste of money, I call it insurance that everything is copacetic before I run it.

I have even thought about selling all my LS stuff and going 540 big block for the extra weight up front to help keep the front end down and digging on extreme angle climbs. Like I said though eventually it will be all tube chassis rock bouncer style rig that still looks like a Jeep. I also have a really built th400 trans for when I get more power. I did some research on some of the Ford sites and while the threads I read did not bad mouth TREperformance must guys questioning about getting a Ford stroker built from them were told to spend the extra 300-500 and get one built from one of two companies they mentioned. So that might answer my question. Sure I would like to not spend more than I have to but when I build or get something built, reliability and quality of work is what I want most. I am just trying to keep up with my son and my daughter's boyfriend when we go to the dunes. My son has a 79 Ford F250 that we built up a 460 for running on e85 and my daughter's boyfriend has a very built 400 in a 78 F150. They are both pretty fast and usually only lose to the full on race trucks out there. The kids drive theirs on the streets also during the summer and store them in the winter months. My son however is going to get forged rods and pistons for his 472 build with maybe twin turbos. He already has the turbos.
no rebuild, just a 100-300k junkyard engine, add cam, springs etc

I'm debating same options as you, rebuild my 85K Z28 347 for boost, or buy a short block or long block 370. If I decide on a 370, it will be from Texas Speed.

You didn't say where you were from, but, I can almost guarantee some of, or all of those guys that are outrunning the Fords are running LS power. I would ask around in their circles about who they are using for engine builders...
