Default Stock oil filter bypass valve

Anybody ever measure the pressure drop across the filter that the valve opens at?

How are you going to know when it opens...?

I am not sure, but will point out the following. I had a motor that held about 28 lbs at idle when the filter started to clog. Before then, it held about 37 at hot idle. Assuming that if it went into full bypass, the car would have indicated 37, I can only assume that the 9 lb difference did not cause the bypass to open.

I do not know what this indicates, I can only state what happened. Hope this helps.

Default Cold Oil Bypass

Hi Red, I would be MORE worried with COLD Oil and the fitted Oil Filter SIZE. (US .gov regulations !)

The measurement method : Remove the "bypass" valve AND cut it apart.

Measure the spring, number of coils, spring diameter, length, wire diameter.
Measure the installed height.
Measure the diameter of the disk.

Provide that report, I will do the rest ?
