Question Quick ? about Crank bolt removal

Can you just put the car in gear and try and remove the bolt or do you need to stick a screwdriver in the flywheel teeth? TIA

Or you could but the socket on with long braker bar, brake it loose with the starter.

Sounds like a great way to destroy a starter or flywheel.

Not very safe:

Normally you disconnect the battery before working on engine.

Should the wrench slip, it could get ugly.

Put the car in sixth gear and use a breaker bar and strap wrench to help hold the pulley while you turn the bolt. Give it some good pressure on the breaker bar and it'll come off.

if that doesn't work i can loan you my impact gun, but its going to cost you some

I put hte car into gear and use a breaker bar plus a long 3 foot lead pipe....these crank bolts are REALLY tight - 240lbs - I think!

I doubt a 1/4 impact wrench would work but I never tried one....

I just dropped the starter, only 2 bolts. There's a hole in the flywheel (i think it's 1/4" dia.). You can insert a pin (i used a phillips screwdriver) in the hole to lock the flywheel.
