Piston ring ?
Piston ring ? I bought a tsp rotating assembly but it doesn't have instructions. The ? Is the 1st and second rings that have the chamfer on them has an n on them both I know it means napier but does that also indicate up or down or neither there is no dot and I don't want to guess which way the chamfer go. If anyone can tell me which way they install I'd appreciate it.
Piston Ring Installation Hi Phil, the TOP ring has the inside bevel facing to the piston crown, to allow for gas pressure that pushes the ring to the cylinder wall.
The 2nd "N" ring has the outside notch facing to the piston skirt, to allow the oil to be scraped off the cylinder wall.

But which goes up and down they both have n on them. So if the top one has the bevel going in which way is up? Same as bottom could some one give a good ish pic because i dont wanna mess this up. Lol
When the top ring has a bevel, it goes in facing up, or towards the piston crown as Lance said. The second ring is the opposite; the bevel faces down or towards the skirt.

So here's the rings the top ring you can see how it sits in my hands and the edge rolls off a bit what i am getting at is either way I out the ring on itll be touching the piston but which way is up. Same for the bottom can some one take these pics and point out which is up lol.

So top ring pic, side that is touching your thumb goes to the top of the piston.
bottom ring pic. side that is touching your middle finger goes to the bottom of piston.
