Default Rear engine cover?

If I pull the rear engine cover will I be able to see the rear cam surface to get the numbers off of it? I understand I will need to buy an cover alignment tool and new seals/gasket if I do this.

You won’t need an alignment tool, just use the oil pan.

Ok thanks. Should I replace the barbell thing while I'm in there?

Not a bad idea, IF you replace it with Sac City Corvette's Billet Barbell, a precision-machined replacement that seals better and potentially increases oil pressure.
