Do smaller push rods need to be used with 243s? I seen the cc on 853 is 66 and 243 is 64cc
Only way to know for sure is with a pushrod length checker. They are like $20 and will tell you exactly what length your pushrods need to be.

Spitting out the intake or exhaust is timing. The cam is off timing or the ignition. Did you take the coil packs off the valve covers? Did you take them off the brackets or as a full coil pack assembly?

Did you make sure to put them back on the same side?

Being that you didn't seem to be aware of the timing marks on the rollmaster set, I'm willing the bet the cam is way off timing.

i took the coils off as 1 just like ive done in the passed so that aint the issue also the cam is in dot to dot so thats not the problem i did do a compression check and had 0 compression in cylinder 1

I wouldn't be so sure. You don't know what it is but you're 100% what it's not?

Let me ask another question. Which timing mark is it on on the rollmaster set? In other words which timing mark did you set the lower gear timing mark on?
.
You said you didn't think it was an adjustable set and it's been said it is. So it's very likely you have the cam timing off. Dot to dot with an adjustable set only means the cam is in time for whatever degree you set the cam at, and unless you're trying to set the cam at a certain degree to account for something, then it should be set at 0 degrees. Which there's a good chance it is not since it's backfiring/sneezing. When it does that, the ignition or the cam timing/firing order is wrong, or the valves are held open.

Did you check compression on any other cylinder?
Also you asked about pushrod length with 243 heads, if you have LS6 Z06 243 heads with the lightweight valves, they are longer, and you'll need a shorter pushrod. If they are 243's from a truck or a GTO or anything but a Z06 then you should be okay with the 7.400 pushrods.

That sucks! Good luck with getting your car running again. I had 2 cams go bad in a '73 Nova I have before I went roller cam. I helped a buddy install a new cam in his C6 and it was a piece of cake compared to old school flat tappets.

That's what I always do is slot a used stock bolt, works great.

Did you find out why the valves got bent in the first place? If not it's gonna do it again.

Edit: I read back up and saw where you said the cam was installed wrong and had the dot to the 0 instead of dot to dot so that is likely what bent the valves.

Hopefully you have the the crank gear on the right keyway now, I saw you said you got it dot to dot now but didn't mention if you checked for sure that the gear was on the right keyway for 0 degree's of advance or retard

.
