I have a Gen 3 LS2 (12568952) shortblock i acquired that id like to use to replace my rod knocked LS1. My questions are about the Cam position sensor. Are both gen 3 and 4 LS2 cam sensor located in the front?

 

Only gen 4 is in front . You'll have to buy the harness for the cam, and knock sensors. Also you have to run a 1x cam gear. And put a 24x reluctor on the ls2 . Also have to put the knock sensors on the side of the block.

If the ls2 came out of a GTO it has the 24x reluctor and 1x cam gear.

 

Only the 05 gto if I'm not mistaken

 

 

All GTO's were 24x.

 

My ls2 was a gto so crank was ready to go.

Had to order an extension harness for the cam sensor, front cover, cam sprocket, and extensions for the knock sensors which I had to drill and tap the block for.

I got the harnesses on ebay and the front cover and cam sprocket local from a machine shop. I don't remember where I bought the cam sensor.
