Default Milling TFS heads - downsides?

Just curious if there are any other than upping the compression if you wanted to do some sort of power adder?

I'm going to be N/A 99% of the time, maybe a small shot of nitrous in the future, nothing more than 150, if I even do.

Recently ordered a set of TFS 245's and since I was going with an N/A motor it was suggested to up the compression, so I had them milled to 64 cc (down from 70).

Just curious in hindsight, any downsides in doing this?

General rule of thumb is that most heads actually lose a little bit of their flow with milling, but it’s not gonna be enough to notice here. You also obviously are bringing the valves closer to the top of the piston, so PTV will have to be checked.

How much flow you talking? Dropping 70 to 64. I imagine the compression bump would more than make up for the power loss attributed to loss of flow?

I’m talking a few CFM here. Nothing big, I was just listing downsides for you. Yes, you should always shoot for compression, vs. losing a few cfm in a situation like this. Here, compression trumps airflow.

one concern i have seen is excessive milling can cause intake seating issues......as you mill it brings both heads' intake ports closer to each other, making the intake fit
"tighter". not sure how much milling is excessive tho

Great point! On a TFS 260 head, 62cc is as small as you can go before intake fitment becomes an issue. Not sure if all TFS heads are the same dimensionally...
