Hello everyone, i picked up some c5r heads (casting 0090) and a custom intake for pretty cheap today and the only catch is that there was a hairline crack that was welded behind a valve seat. These heads apear to use bronze valve seats and the weld will have to be machined to accept the new seats of course. I am no expert on valve seat material but this is a street/ high rpm road racing engine (re-sleeved ls3 up to a 427) and i am looking to turn some decent rpm. I know theses heads are pretty special, espically with their very small chambers and all but i was curious as to how well the bronze seats would do on the street. Should i consider a different material? Who is the most trusted source for machining these heads and installing new seats and valves? Thank you for any suggestions!!
p.s please dont turn this into a why not an ls7 head discussion lol

The two mentioned are good choices. When my LS3 heads were damaged Reher-Morrison welded them back and repaired as good as new. I would also add Reher-Morrison to the list of shops to consider for doing the repair.

You will have no problem getting that combustion chamber/ valve seats/ valve guides repaired with a deck performed by any of dozens of businesses.

Horsepower Research seems extreemly knowledgeable when it comes to these heads but fully dressed with rockers they said would be around $6,000. That seems high but i know they know what they are doing. Mamo does not mess with them but he refered me to WCCH. Gonna send them an email. Im located in Wilmington NC and im not sure if there are any super reputable shops around here. I send my regular heads to R&R and they are great but not sure how they will fare with these heads. Anyone know anyone else around NC? I know theres probably alot of guys neat moorsville in nascar country
