Default .034 or .045 Quench?

Okay, so i'm running TFS 245's on a 416, head gaskets need to be either 4.125 or 4.130, that leaves me with Cometics. The only compressed thicknesses that I can find in that bore is either .040 or .051.

Pistons are .006 out of the hole. So ultimately that leaves me with choosing a quench of .045 or .034.

Bottom end is fully forged. Piston to wall is .0035.

I do plan on spinning some RPM, though I don't know where yet.

Which would you guys choose? Would anyone feel uncomfortable at .034"?

Thanks

I got some Cometic 4.030 x .045 thick from Texas speed. But actually , Cometic will make any thickness you want between .030 and .051

The shorter the piston, the more it’s going to rock. That’s a very short piston and even using our .036 number with a well developed skirt profile is likely going to tag one of the quench pads. That can go bad quickly and think it would be a better ideal to go conservative here. The Filters on our website allow you to search by bore and thickness and you can quickly home in on an offering. Let us know if you need help.

Id definitely work with the .045. Much better and will help cover for any differing fuel quality. Youll still make power, so dont sweat the hard decision there. Better safe than sorry.
