Default Pre-Oiling

Hi Guys, I am getting ready to fire up my LS engine after sitting 2 years and concerned about starting it dry. I made a pre-oiler I saw on "You Tube. If I fill the pre-oiler with oil and pump it in I would like to know if I should fill it through the plug on the left side of the engine where the oil pump is right there ( hard to assess in the vehicle) or at the oil pressure switch located at top and back of engine, the oil plug over the oil filter is hard to access with the headers on. Since there is no way of seeing the oil level in the oiler I could easily run out of oil and pump air into the engine, would this be a issue or don't worry about it? I'm sure a lot of you guys use oilers and how do you prime the engine correctly. Any help would be appreciated, have a good day.

I pumped 2 quarts thru the oil pressure sender switch on my new build and had good oil pressure at startup. I did this on the engine stand a few hours prior to startup.. Assuming you used an appropriate amount of preassembly lube, you will be fine.

Default pre-oiler

Thank you, but this engine is not a fresh rebuild, it's a engine that has 120K on it when I pulled it out and it hasn't run since.

Usually you can kill the fuel and just turn over the engine a few times and all you really need to do

Thank you, that will probably work but I spent a lot of time making this pre-oiler so I might as well use it. I was just wondering if I ran the pre-oiler dry if I would blow the oil out of the oil pump and that it would take the engine that much longer to get oil. I just hate to take a short cut and be sorry. Thanks again and I'll post again after I start this thing.

pull spark plugs, kill fuel and spin it over for about 30 seconds

But if it hasnt been torn apart i would just fire it up, many engine have sat for WAY WAY WAY longer than 2 years untouched and have been started without being primed.
