Default Oil pump internals

Ok, so I disassembled the oil pump that I suspected to be defective last night, and the rotating assembly looks to be fine but there is a little valve looking thing with a spring under it (Spring is loaded through the hex nut on the outside casing) and the valve would not move at all.

Am I correct to assume that the valve that appears to be stuck should actually move?

Default Oil Pump Pressure Relieve Valve

Hi,
The steel piston is the pressure regulator valve. It is closed by the spring pressure until a certain value then it unseats to bypass oil to limit the maximum oil pressure. It needs to move freely in the bore.
Good luck,
Steve

Thanks for the info! This is definantly the problem then! The pressure regulator valve will not move.

I'll be putting a new oil pump in tomorrow and hoping for something about 0 PSI
