Timing components

Default Timing components

I am currently building a GEN 3 6.0 iron block. I purchased a new three bolt cam (trick flow) and just want to make sure on some other timing components. The crank is the stock 24 tooth. A new 1x cam sprocket from GM is on the list. Is it possible to run a front mounted cam sensor? Also I’m looking at using the GM timing chain and new crank sprocket even though the old one looks fine. Piece of mind I suppose and it’s cheap.

You can do the front cam sensor. You will have to get an extension harness to hook it up.

Are there any advantages to the front sensor? If I switch over do I then just plug the rear sensor hole?

I guess I should have mentioned I don’t have a harness. Basically started with a stock short block. It was disassembled, Hot tanked, cylinders honed, new cam bearings, installed new main and rod bearings, new file fit rings, and now I’m here.

The only real advantage of the front sensor is to be able to use stock Gen IV cams.
Nearly all aftermarket cams are made with the Gen III sensor rings on the back end.
