pushrod length checking 5.3 help

pushrod length checking 5.3 help sorry guys but im a new member, I just cant seem to understand this pushrod length checking,
1. I see that one has to check the length, but how do you now your right?
2when you get the new set, do you just tighten them down like the stock ones?
3 I will be doing the upgrade on the stock rockers, if I understand I wont need to but 1.7 rockers after doing the upgrade/
4 I will be buying new springs, and a stage 2 cam, im thinking of summits stage 2 218/227 .523/,523 I hope its choppie idle enough.
finally if someone from here has done this I would greatly appreciate the info.,
