There was a defect in the casting. Porosity issue (entrapped air bubbles in the liquid metal while it was pouring into the mold). Id did not affect every 706 head. I know the 2004 castech 706 head was affected (ask me how, lol). I think it was isolated to castech AND either 03/04 or 04/05. The heads will develop a crack and leak coolant into the combustion chamber. I had to pull mine at around 110K miles for a head replacement. Different year, non-castech, truck still on the road at 250K now. different owner too.

hope that answers what you were asking

This was perfect. I found the TSB. Thank you very much!

What's wrong with VVT? Seems like it would be a nice to thing to have.

Coming from the Subaru world, I'm a little disappointed that my Corvette doesn't have a cam timing table to tinker with.

It limits cam choices and adds points of failure.

If it was my 100% stock DD, I would be fine with it. If its a performance car or swap, its done away with or never offered with it.

VVT rocks. GM offers it on all of the big LT performers, such as the LT1, LT4, etc. I ran it on my recent ls2 build on my Chevelle and it’s legit. If set up properly, even in a high rpm build, it works well. If you don’t understand the tech, and it’s not set up properly, bad things can happen quickly.
