Oil pump seal
So this is my first LS build and I'm building an LM7 engine. I've read about the oring at the oil pump but couldn't figure out what I should use. The one I removed had a grey seal rather than an oring that was really hard. Is it just the oring that went flat and hard of the temperature or is there a different seal other than the oring I should use? please see pics below and tell me what you think.
Oil pumps are all the same... just a simple bored-out hole. The thing that determines which O-ring to use is the pickup tube.
That looks like the kind of tube that gets the thinner O-ring, with the straight end. The kind that gets the thicker one has a neck-down looking feature.
Easy enough to figure out. Should fit into the pump tight but with moderate force. If it needs the thin O-ring and you put the thick one on it, it won't go in without destroying the O-ring. If it needs the thick one and you install the thin, it will wobble around in there a bit.
It's not a bad idea to replace the pickup tube anyway; and get one of those additional clamps that are out there, that clamp it with the 2nd hole. SacCityCorvettes has one for example. None of that costs much.
