Default These pistons toast?

Bought the car with a BTR stage 2 cam and .660 springs on 806 heads. When I pulled the heads to swap on a set of 243s I found this. Every piston is nicked, passenger side pistons nicked towards the rear of the car, drivers side pistons nicked towards the front. Posted closeups of the shallowest nick and the deepest.

I'm guessing it happened awhile ago because there was so much carbon buildup I couldn't even see the damage on the pistons until I cleaned them. Think they're savable?

I would use them, The only thing I would do is smooth any sharp edges.

What was the reason for taking the heads off?

I'm putting on a set of lightly ported 243s. The heads I pulled didn't have any bent valves so I guess it was fixed at some point. What would you use to clean up the gouges? It's odd, some look smooth and others are pretty jagged.

anything slightly abrasive, dont need to gind into them just smooth them up. A Roll-loc would work good or anything like it.
They are fine otherwise

Mine were worse than that and they have been n the car for 3 years and about 300 + runs. They were hit by the exhaust halves.

People notch pistons deeper than that. Are all the pistons the same? Might have been a poor attempt to notch them.

You can clean them up by hand with a 160 to 220 sandpaper, Just enough to take the sharp edges off. It will only take a minute.

You know, it might be a poor flycut job. Every piston is cut on only the intake valve side, but the cuts are different depths. If someone did flycut them, I'd say it was their first time doing it.
