Default Does 98Z have a cam sensor?

I'm a little stumped. My 98Z started getting hard to start. While turning over it sounds like its backfiring. Then it will finally crank and run/idle fine. Well it threw a SES light. Checked it and it said something to the effect "camshaft position sensor low sensor bank 1". I was a dumbass and cleared the code without writing it down. I know I know.

Anyway when I look on any of the parts sites it does not show a camshaft sensor for the 98. If I search for a 99 it shows a camshaft sensor. I thought all 98-02 LS1's had a camshaft sensor and its at the back of the intake. Any help is greatly appreciated. I want to get this thing fixed because I had planned to take it to the track this coming Friday. TIA

ALL LS engines have a cam sensor, and ALL Gen III's are at the back behind the intake manifold. The parts book might have had a misprint. 98-02 should all use the same sensor.

That's exactly what I thought also. How could it not have a cam sensor. I even went on ac delco parts site and it didn't even show a cam sensor for a 98. Its just odd. Thanks.

All the LS motors have one; they have to. It takes a considerable amount of work-around to NOT have one. Some method of sticking a distributor type of thing in the timing cover for example. You'd probably know about it if that had been done to your car.

The sensor is on the top of the block, at the rear, next to the oil pressure sending unit. Behind the valley cover and under the rear of the intake.
